Checklist for Choosing a Card Provider
Posted on April 9th, 2010 No commentsWhen it comes to credit card value, it isn’t just the card itself that will impact on your experience. You’ll often need to have contact with the lender itself, and if the way they do business doesn’t suit you much frustration is in store! Today we look at the factors that should influence your choice of credit card provider.

1. Local branch
Day to day, we rarely need a local branch for our card providers. However, if you hate to try to resolve disputes and problems over the phone and you live in Mount Isa, then perhaps an HSBC credit card isn’t right for you.
2. Convenient ATMs
If you regularly use your credit card for cash advances (because you have na awesome cash rate card like the Bendigo Basic Black card!), then proximity of ATMs will definitely make a difference to your credit card experience. It will cost you $2 to withdraw from any other bank’s ATMs with your credit card. Do this regularly, and the wasted cash will mount up.
3. Rewards programs
If you’re a heavy user who always pays in full, you should definitely have a rewards credit card. Look for a lender with uncapped programs, and a range of rewards you’ll actually use.
4. Reputation
Being a big company doesn’t necessarily guarantee good service. The reverse is also true – being small doesn’t guarantee it either. Look for a credit card company that has a reputation for good customer service.
5. Fees and charges
Make sure you understand these well, and make them a major factor in your choice of credit card provider. They can really burn holes in your pockets after a while!
